Discipleship Part 2

Over the next couple weeks I intend to post some things that I pray help us all become deliberate disciples for Jesus Christ. Last night I posted about the importance of focusing on God’s plan and subsequently submitting to His plan. Today I want to talk about chasing after God as much as He chases after us.

I want to start off by saying while I am the one posting this, it certainly does not me...an that I am immune to challenges that keep me from chasing after God. I will be the first to admit that there are times in my life that a certain challenge holds me back from God. The world is a crazy place and we all get caught up in different “stuff” that prevents us from chasing after God with our whole heart. The good news is that God relentlessly pursues us no matter how little we pursue Him (Luke 15:3-7).

The more we chase after God, the more of His plan for our life will be revealed. Take a look at your life. Have you been struggling with something that you just can’t seem to kick? Relationships? Friends? Finances? Work? It’s not out of line to suggest that everyone has problems. Everyone has problems, that’s a fact—admit it or not, you have things you struggle with—just like me. Having “issues” isn’t the problem; it’s what we do with those issues that we need to work on.

How many of you, generally speaking, try to fix all your problems without any help? You can’t see it through this note, but I’m raising my hand. I like to solve problems. Unfortunately, I’m not very good at it. I’m not a good problem solver because I don’t ask my best friend for help—Jesus—which should be the first step in the problem solving process. Philippians 4:6 tells us that we should present our requests to God. Now let me bring this all back to our pursuit of God. If we are continuously pursuing God, it would be a natural part of any process to first consult with God. Relentlessly pursing God isn’t an activity, it’s a lifestyle. Once we make God the center of our life, we should never stop chasing after him—relentlessly pursue Him like he does us.

Yours in Christ,
Jeremy
