If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. 1 John 5:16 (NIV)
Maintaining a relationship with God means you need to follow His rules. A sin that leads to death is a sin such as “spiritual death.” This means that you rebuke the Lord, His Word, and His gift of eternal life. In other words, leaving behind your faith in God, His Word, and His promises, means you are committing spiritual suicide. Being a child of God means living for God through everything that comes your way…both good and bad.
So, what’s the morale of today’s passage? No matter how difficult things get in your life, you must always keep God as the focal point of everything. He is willing to forgive you your sins as long as you ask Him and keep faith in Him (1 John 5:15).
Live always in prayer to our Savior and never turn your back on Him. He will always be there for you no matter what the circumstance. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13)!
God, thank you that You are willing to forgive us when we mess up. I pray that no matter how difficult things get, we will always keep our faith in You and use those times to glorify You and prove how miraculous You are to everyone around us! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
